Demonstrator number 33
Description
The demonstrator displays a 3D scan to perform Reverse Engineering: By scanning the part we obtain the point cloud that shows us the skin of the part (in real time). Then we treat that mesh and convert it into a geometric model or a surface (in detail). And together with the Design and Simulation team, we perform the CAD modeling, obtaining the 3D.
This model can be modified and worked with any CAD/CAM software for subsequent manufacturing.
Innovative aspects
Thanks to this technology, reverse engineering is carried out: creation of a component for which we have no or insufficient drawings. They can even create parts for which there are no spare parts, which brings great sustainability and economic savings to our customers. They can continue to use the same machines without having to buy a new one.
Pilot implementations
- 3D scanning of clay mock-up for manufacturing drawings, as part of the redesign of a motorcycle helmet.
- Its technical team travels to the end customer’s facilities in Milan to perform the complete scanning of the real wind turbine part. It is a 2.́5m diameter component weighing around 700 kilos (the work is carried out on site to avoid any logistical problems).
