Intelligent Simulator with collaborative & immersive Virtual Reality for the prevention of occupational risks

University of Burgos (UBU)

Burgos, Spain

Stand 6

3rd Floor Forum Evolution Burgos. October 15 and 16, 2025

Description

The demonstrator consists of an intelligent immersive and collaborative virtual reality simulator designed for occupational risk prevention. It offers a safe and highly realistic environment in which workers learn to interact correctly with heavy machinery, such as bridge cranes and forklifts. It allows simultaneous participation by several users within the same virtual scenario, promoting collaboration and joint learning. The system operates in real time, recording key data such as reaction times, movements, decisions, and points of visual attention. This information is processed by an intelligent virtual tutor, which adjusts the challenges and difficulty levels according to each participant’s learning pace.

The University of Burgos (UBU) is a Spanish public university focused on applied research and technology transfer, promoting initiatives at both the regional and European levels.

Innovative aspects

  • Specialized immersive training with accurate recreation of real scenarios and protocols.
  • Multi-user collaborative environment in VR, promoting team dynamics in high-risk contexts.
  • Intelligent tutoring system that automatically adapts tests and challenges according to individual performance.
  • Comprehensive capture of behavioral data (gaze, movements, times, decisions), integrated into a formative assessment system.
  • Learning design with tests and phases that progressively increase in complexity.
  • Potential for customization according to local safety regulations or specific types of machinery.

Pilot Deployments

A collaboration with mutual insurance companies is currently underway to evaluate the prototype in a real-world testing environment.
