AUTOASSESS Open Call for tech solutions: Robotics & AI for the autonomous inspection
The AUTOASSESS Open Call aims to promote the development of innovative technologies for the autonomous inspection of ship ballast tanks and cargo holds. The primary objective is to reduce the need for human surveyors in hazardous environments by fostering collaboration with startups and SMEs.
It seeks external technology providers to offer solutions for specific technical challenges or propose new ideas that enhance the project’s goals. This initiative will provide funding to selected projects that demonstrate innovative approaches to autonomous inspection using drones and advanced technology.
Applicants can choose to tackle one of the following challenges:
- Developing reliable high-bandwidth communication systems for off-board drone control
- Integrating a stereo event-camera on a miniature drone for enhanced navigation
- Designing a human-operator interface for fully actuated drones
- Creating an ultrasound-based crack detection system
- Synchronizing multi-modal sensor data for precise navigation in GNSS-denied environments.
Each challenge requires a technical solution that can be tested, validated, and integrated into the AUTOASSESS ecosystem.
Funding programme
AUTOASSESS offers a maximum of €100,000 per project.
Startups will receive 100% of their project costs, while SMEs are eligible for 70% of their costs.
Duration
Selected projects will engage in a six-month program divided into three phases: planning, development and integration, and assessment. During this time, participants will receive technical support, mentorship, and access to specialized resources from the AUTOASSESS consortium.
Who can apply?
The call is open to SMEs and startups legally established in the European Union and Horizon Europe-associated countries. Applications can be submitted individually or in consortia of up to two entities.
